A good day for roman...

Roman... roamin'... haha, I thought it was a good pun about 10 minutes ago!

On Saturday, under a blazing sun and bright blue skies, we took a road-trip to Nîmes and Orange to see their major sights - remains from Roman civilizations in Gaul (now, France). Nîmes is home to the Maison Carrée, a temple constructed in 16 BCE. It's condition is impeccable and is really quite stunning. Read more about it here.

Nîmes is also home to the best-preserved Roman arena (or colosseum) in France. It was built in the first century CE and is still used for bullfights, concerts and other performances. Read more about it here.

After lunch in Nîmes, we headed further north to Orange, which boasts on of the most well-preserved Roman theaters in the world. What's special about it, too, is that the stage wall is completely intact, all the way to the upper-most level. Also built in the first century CE, the theater could hold 30,000 visitors! Like the colesseum in Nîmes, the theater is still in use today. Read more about it here.
