Vacation Days 1 & 2: Toulouse

It's vacation time yet again and I'm spending a week in the south-western city of Toulouse. Toulouse is known as La Ville Rose, "The Pink City," due to nearly all the buildings being made out of brick. Toulouse is also the 4th largest city in France.

Place de la Capitole - the heart of the city

Basilique Saint-Sernin - the largest Romanesque structure in Europe

Eglise des Jacobins - burial place of Saint Thomas Aquinas

Les palmiers - the "palm trees" get their name from the "fronds" of arcs sprouting from the "trunks"

Cathédrale Saint-Etienne - despite the same name as the cathedral in Metz, the two could not look more different! Have you ever seen a less-symmetrial cathedral???

quirky balconies

beautiful buildings

street signs are written in both French and Occitan - and there happens to be a Carriéra de Metz in Toulouse, not far from the Carriéra d'Alsacia Lorena!
