Fête de la Musique

Much like Nuit Blanche in October, and the Nuit des Musées in May, with June comes the Fête de la Musique in cities all over France. Celebrated on the first day of summer, it's a night where music of all kinds floods the streets and people pour out of their homes to eat, drink and enjoy the sounds. And celebrate the impending vacances.

The Fête de la Musique in Metz was, in my opinion, a huge success. There were people everywhere - a welcome sight after what seems like months of winter hibernation. Semi-professional groups as well as amateur garage bands were set up all throughout Centre Ville and we spent the better part of the evening and night wandering and listening. It was lovely!

A great jazz/swing band playing lots of American standards. The kids were dancing to their hearts' content!

This woman was almost definitely French, but did a really wonderful job singing in English!

A costumed chamber music group. The setting, in a small interior courtyard, was just perfect!

These guys were laughing more than they were singing.

They drew quite a crowd!
