Forgive me for sounding like a broken record, but one thing that just astounds me about France and Europe is how close everything is to everything else! Maybe it strikes me so much living in Metz, where Luxembourg is 45 minutes away, the German border about as much, and Strasbourg just over an hour and a half, and Paris just under (thanks to the fast train!). And at the same time, with such little (relatively speaking, compared to the US!) geographical distance covered, the differences in lifestyle, opportunities, accents, fashions and foods is just as great as traveling many hours from one region of the US to another.
That said, I'm about to head off to Paris for the weekend.
Of course, there are some things that don't change so much from region to region: it's wicked cold in Metz, it's wicked cold in Paris. It's windy in Metz, it's windier in Paris. But on the upside, it's not raining in Metz, nor is it in Paris!
Bon week-end!
